Building on its successful collaboration at the Super One Factory, Chery Automotive has once again partnered with ForwardX Robotics to deploy 98 autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) at its Kaifeng Super Factory’s final assembly workshop, advancing its vision of fully automated smart manufacturing.
Total Automation in Final Assembly
This milestone project covers the full scope of intralogistics in the final assembly line — from parts warehousing and delivery to sequencing and line-side replenishment, as well as the return of empty racks. The deployment includes:
– 83 Max AMRs, capable of lifting and transporting full and empty racks.
– 15 Lynx AMRs, specialized for SPS operations and towing tasks.
– All AMRs integrated with the factory’s existing Logistics Execution System (LES) and PDA-based material call system.
How It Works: Smart Intralogistics, Step by Step
With intelligent automation in place, AMRs respond to real-time material calls, streamlining every stage of line-side logistics.
– Inbound Logistics: AMRs deliver full racks to designated points once a PDA request is triggered.
– Empty Rack Returns: Robots autonomously retrieve and return empty racks to sorting zones.
– Sequencing Area Transfers: Materials are pre-sorted, then sent via AMR to the correct workstation — all triggered by operators with a click.
– SPS Support: Lynx AMRs bring empty racks to picking stations, where workers add the required parts before AMRs head to the line. Once unloaded, they return with the next empty rack, forming a closed-loop operation.
24/7 Efficiency: No Downtime, No Congestion
ForwardX AMRs rely on advanced vision-based navigation instead of magnetic tape, QR codes, or fixed track lines. This enables them to adapt quickly to layout changes and rerouting needs. Operating in parallel lanes, the robots support two-way traffic and dynamic dispatching during peak periods. Lynx AMRs, in particular, are built to navigate narrow spaces and respond instantly to real-time material requests. By sustaining a continuous flow between picking stations and the line, they power a closed-loop system that minimizes idle time, eliminates congestion, and ensures uninterrupted intralogistics throughout every shift.
